Another Great Week For Boxing
November 2nd 2007 23:59
Boxing fans will be treated to another action packed weekend. 2 mega-fights are lined-up and great match-ups from world rated boxers will be battled out on the squared ring. We have the Mikkel Kess-Joe Calzaghe fight which is the most anticipated fight this saturday. This is a fight that will be fought in front of 50,000 fans at the Millenium Stadium at Cardiff Wales, UK. Be sure to watch this fight as two great champions will put their championship belts on the line to claim the undisputed title in the Super Middleweight or 168 lb division. It is hard to pick a winner for this match since both boxers are tremendously gifted and they have advantages that counter each others advantages. I am just really hyped to these slugging it out.
The Juan Manuel Marquez-Rocky Juarez fight will also happen on the same weekend after their match was postponed for 2 months because of a hand injury suffered by Marquez. This would be a fight that will bring Marquez closer to having a rematch with #1 rated Super Featherweight Manny Pacquiao. He will be defending his WBC title against the hard-punching Rocky Juarez. For Juarez, this will be another chance for him to challenge for a title after losing twice to Marco Antonio Barrera in his bid for belt around his waist. Boxing fans are also lucky that this fight will be in the USA, therefore they watch the Kessler-Calzaghe first since it is in the UK then watch the Marquez-Juarez fight afterwards.
We also have the Calvin Brock-Eddie Chambers fight in a title eliminator to determine a challenger for IBF Heavyweight Champion Wladimir klitschko. The winner of this match will also move on to fight Alexander Povetkin, who just won by TKO last week against Chris Byrd. This is a match where two hungry boxers are in it to alleviate their status in the Heavyweight division. Calvin Brock is currently on his comeback trail after his devastating loss to Klitschko last year but he has only fought low-tier opposition while Eddie Chambers is on a roll, beating tough contenders such as Dominick Guinn and Derrick Rossy. I think this fight is another great addition in the Heavyweight scene and no boxing should miss this.
Other fights of note would be the Robert Guerrero-Matrin Honorio fight which is a co-feature bout in the Marquez-Juarez undercard. Guerrero will be defending his IBF Featherweight title against the formidable Martin Honorio. The other fight would be the Kassim Ouma-Saul Roman fight. Ouma will be returning after his valiant display of heart despite losing to former Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor earlier this year. He would be coming down to his natural weight division, the Junior Middleweights, as he will be once again building his rank for another title bid.
As a big fan of boxing, I think this is one of the best weekends for the sport. Be sure to check out for more updates and results of the fights here on Boxingcraft.
