DIVISION DROP FOR MUNDINE

Controversial boxer Anthony Mundine has vowed to relinquish his world super middleweight title after his bout with Sam Soliman in an attempt to become a champion in three separate weight divisions. Mundine told reporters he aimed to drop down to the middleweight division to fight the likes of Jermain Taylor and Ronald “Winky” Wright, before taking the jump up another two divisions to the light heavyweight ranks where his recently retired rival champion Danny Green finished his career.
According to manager Khoder Nasser, a rematch between the two is far from extinct.
“I’ve been trying to talk Danny into a rematch against Anthony for a while now and I know it’s still on the cards… Danny still has something to show the world and still believes he has something to prove from the last time the two met. So I’m sure there’s still a chance it could happen."
In the meantime, Mundine is focusing solely on his second rematch against the former Contender contestant Australian Soliman, an opponent he has beaten twice, and question marks are continuing about the credibility of his opponents. Boxing legend Jeff Fenech believes Mundine is wasting his talent on over promoting bouts against such poor opponents and claims ‘The Man’, despite what he says, has not made any attempt to challenge the big names in his division.
“I was sitting down with Bernard Hopkins recently and I asked him if he would fight Mundine. He looked at me and asked who is he? he didn’t even know who he was! I know Anthony personally and I know he has some great qualities… but how he promotes his fights is a shame.”
Despite the knockers Mundine still claims the big names are scared of him. “Kessler didn’t want to fight me again and while Bika says he does, the price he wanted for our fight tells us he is doesn’t want to fight me.”
Mundine takes on Soliman Wednesday May 28th in Melbourne.
