FENECH FINALLY GETS HIS MAN

June 25th 2008 02:18
Jeff Fenech has finally defeated the man he claims inflicted the two worst results of his decorated career last night, with a 10 round majority decision win against Ghana's Azumah Nelson at Vodaphone Arena, Melbourne.

In what many expected to be an overrated scrap between two late forty year olds, the former world champions proved to the world that even after 15 years of retirement and aged 44 and 49 respectively, both still have the skill, ability and hunger to showcase an entertaining fight.

The two fighters weighed in around 10 kg's heavier than the last time they met 16 years ago at Princess Park. On that night Azumah silenced Fenech's trash talking with a viscous KO that also silenced the nation. Last night however it was the Marrickville Brawler who did the silencing.

From the opening bell Fenech troubled Nelson with his close body jabbing and skilful footwork. Despite Nelson's rapid counter attacks and constant Knockout Blow punches, he failed to find the mark.

In the final two rounds Nelson knew he needed a KO for victory however could not deliver the result with Jeff Fenech Avoiding his opponent at all costs dancing around the ring much to the despise of the 6,000 plus strong crowd.

When the 98 - 96, 98 - 96, 95 - 95 majority decision in favour of Fenech was read, it was received with much booing and jeering from a crowd that felt their home grown hero shirked the issue in the latter part of the fight.

In what proved to be many things, the final round between Fenech and Nelson dismissed the allegations the fight was a health risk, proving to a nation now regarded as the fattest in the world, that even at the age of 49 one can still be regarded as a genuine athlete.

Wow! I can't believe it, the blog I started is still alive! Thank you johnmichael-bric for continuing this blog. I too am a huge boxing fan from the Philippines and I also follow the world's boxing scene. Is it OK if I also contribute some news and boxing incites again here in Boxingcraft? How about joining forces bro?

Oh, on the topic, Nice to hear Jeff Fenech getting sweet revenge after a long time. I hope I get to see this fight.
