Great Weekend for Boxing Yet Again
November 9th 2007 23:07
I am really happy to see boxing fans have been treated with great matchups this year and most of them were excellent and exciting to watch. Now another great fight on a Saturday night between Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto will surely draw the attention from boxing fans around the world. This is a fight between 2 top ranked boxers. Cotto will be defending his WBA Welterweight Championship belt against the ever dangerous Mosley. Despite Mosley's age of 36, you just can't count him out since he still fights like he is 10 years younger. He brings skill, speed and power that will surely trouble the Puerto Rican champ. Cotto is a young lion who is on a roll today. He beat Zab Judah in a very exciting fight that raised his status to championship material. He was stunned many times in the fight because of Judah's excellent counter straights and uppercuts but his heart and courage prevailed as he pressured Judah with vicious body punches until he nailed him with a stinging uppercut and straight right to end the fight. Cotto uses pressure to to pound on his opponents coupled with his hard punches and his famous body shots. I am leaning towards a Shane Mosley win but with Cotto on the other side of the ring, you never know.
I am also pumped to see the another great Cruiserweight or 200 lb action is also due this weekend between WBC/WBA Cruiserweight Champion Jean-Marc Mormeck and David "Haymaker" Haye. The problem is, only the hardcore boxing fans will watch this fight since it will be held in France and HBO nor Showtime won't be showing it in the USA or in any part of the world. It's a good thing the internet is available for boxing fans. Mormeck is a talented 200 lber with his excellent skill inside the ring and heavy hands. He is currently on top of the Cruiserweights after beating O'neil Bell last March in fierce battle. Like Mosley, he is also 36 years old facing a young challenger in David Haye. Haye is known for knocking out 18 opponents in his 19 wins (1 loss) and is capable of stopping the fight in the early rounds. He does have an average chin and will be likely wobbled if Mormeck lands a punch on it.
I predict both super fights will put the crowd on its feet and will probably end in a KO.
Also in the undercard action of the Cotto-Mosley fight, Cuban WBC champion Joel Casamayor will fight Jose Armando Sta. Cruz Mexico for his title and former WBO Welterweight champ Antonio Margarito will be slugging it out against tough contender Golden Johnson in his return bout after losing his WBO belt to Paul Williams.
