October 24th 2008 10:44
It could be an end of an era with 46-year-old four-time former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield saying he plans to permanently retire from boxing at the end of 2009 according to his hometown paper the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Evander also mentioned a possible fight with WBA champion Nikolai Valuev and stated that representatives of former champ Lennox Lewis had contacted him earlier this week about a possible fight. Holyfield was in court yesterday resolving a child support dispute with the mother of one of his 11 children. All told, the AJ-C reports that Holyfield's child support payments could run as high as $500,000 annually.
