Katsidi's Loses Split Decision over Diaz
September 8th 2008 05:02
Towoomba's Michael Katsidis has lost a split points decision to Juan Diaz in front of a sellout crowd of 18,000 in Houston in their IBO lightweight boxing world title on sunday night .
Diaz (33-1, 17KOs) won the fight on two judges cards, 115-113 and 116-112, while the third judge had Katsidis (23-2, 20KOs) ahead 115-113.
The Australian had a cut opened above his left eye in the second round and a cut to the right eye appeared in the sixth. Although the result was close, the Katsidis camp should not have any complaints as most expert observers had Diaz the winner.
