Anthony 'The Man' Mundine successfully defended his World Boxing Association Super Middlewieght title last night with a unanimous points decision over local boy Sam Soliman at the Vodaphoe arena, Melbourne
Mundine overcame a spirited Soliman in a fight, their third, that appeared closer than the scores indicated. Two of the judges awarded the bout to Mundine 116-112, while the third scored it 117-112.
In an entertaining post bout affair, both boxers raised their fists in victory after the gruelling 12 rounds, with the Soliman camp in shock after hearing the judges scorecard.
Mundine now vows to drop a weight division to fight the likes of Jermain Taylor and Ronal 'Winky' Writght, whereas for Soliman it is yet again a case of 'oh so close'. His dream for a world title now apears a pipe dream ater this his third failed attempt.
