Nick Diaz, former Strikeforce welterweight champ, who was slated to fight Georges St. Pierre in UFC 137 in a title bout, as the main event attraction ,was reduced to a fight with B.J. Penn, billed as the co-main event, after missing two scheduled press conferences. The main event reconfigured, to showcase St. Pierre vs.Carlos Condit, looked to be a good match up, promising a strong fight. However it's not to be. St. Pierre is out of UfC 137, because of an injury he incurred while sparring at the gym. His head trainer, Firas Zahabi, stated that St. pierre was hurt while sparring, saying,“One thing that’s definite, he won’t be fighting next week unfortunately. It’s not a career ending injury by any means, but Dana White’s going to tell everybody the details tomorrow”.
So now the main event will be Diaz vs. Penn. The St. Pierre Condit fight fight was expected to be one of the biggest UFC events this year. Waiting for St.Pierre to recover Condit will still get the next title shot. Nick Diaz is making some seriously bold statements, in a prefight conference call with the press, Diaz stated, " There is a whole world out there and ain't nobody can beat me? That's pretty bad".
