TORRES KO'D BY HOLT
July 8th 2008 05:24
Kendall Holt stopped Ricardo Torres after just over a minute of the first round to capture the WBO junior welterweight championship on Saturday night.
Holt had survived two knockdowns in the first 35 seconds before landing a right that was too much for Torres.
The Colombian fighter stopped Holt last September in their first 140-pound title fight and made the better start at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas when dropping him with a right to the head just 15 seconds into the bout.
Holt was knocked down a second time moments later, and Torres could have been deducted a point when he took a swipe at the American as he tried to stand back up.
Holt managed to regroup, though, and landed a left to the body that forced Torres to drop his hands and fall backward off balance.
Holt then took advantage, landing a right to Torres' head that prompted referee Jay Nady ref to stop the bout just a minute and a second into the fight.
