Vargas/Mayorga Fight Now Contracted at 168 LBS
October 19th 2007 15:34
Former Junior Middleweight Champion Fernando Vargas asked the boxing commission to set the weight limit of his fight against another former champion, Ricardo Mayorga, to 168 lbs. The fight was originally listed as a 160 pound fight. I guess ever since Vargas gained so much weight after being inactive for a long time, he is now having a hard time keeping his weight down even to 160 lbs. Fortunately for him, Mayorga's still accepted the condition and the match is still scheduled on November 23. This fight was also supposed to happen a month ago when Vargas was found to be anemic, forcing the bout to be moved at a later date. Now his weight is becoming a problem for him. I predict both of these guys will move slower because of the extra baggage. These former champs are naturally 154 pounders and should have contracted that weight limit. Well, let's just hope their match will live up to the hype.
