There are still many potential opponents for Calzaghe at this point of his career. Right now, he is seeking for a fight against the aged but formidable Bernard Hopkins. There are already talks in this fight since Joe has mentioned that he will move up to the Light Heavyweight division after his fight with Kessler. This would be an interesting fight if it ever materializes. Hopkins fights dirty and will always go for a clinch just to win. He is prone to head clashed because of the way he leads his head when coming in close toward his opponent. I really think that Calzaghe's speed will be a hugr factor against B-hop. He just moves quick and fires rapid fire combinations that always puzzle his opponents and I think Hopkins would have difficulty fighting at Calzaghe's pace. This a a big money fight for both fghters but I hope Calzaghe will get to challenge the younger champions like Chad Dawson or even Zsolt Erdei.
A fight with Chad Dawson would be a great match-up. Chad Dawson is another technically brilliant fighter and moves just as fast as Calzaghe. He even has good punching power to go with his excellent skill. Both fighters are left handed and are exciting to watch. I would love to see this fight but I am not sure if Dawson is in Calzaghe's radar.
Undisputed Middleweight Champion Kell Pavlik could also pose some challenge. He may not be technically skilled but he does have the power to KO anyone. I don't know if his power will be retained if he moves up in weight since he would be fighting Joe at the Light Heavyweight Limit of 175 lbs, 15 lbs north of Middleweight. He still has the task to fight Jermain Taylor in a catch weight of 166 lbs for their rematch. This would ba a good indication if he will carry his knockout punch with the added weight.
Calzaghe can also fight another aging fighter in Roy Jones Jr. Since Roy has been looking for money fights these days, Calzaghe would be a perfect opponent for. I just hope he wouldn't back out if Calzaghe ever challenges him just like what he did in numerous fights before. Jones Jr. is not as fast nor as invincible as he was once 5 years ago. But he does bring a cast amoun of experience in the ring and a couple of flashes of his old self in his previous fights. I think Calzaghe beats him convincingly though.
I hope Calzaghe won't hang his gloves up yet after fighting Hopkins. He still is very formidable despite being 35 years old. I hope to see more great match-ups for Joe Calzaghe.
